Students in ESL 5301, Fall 2013, did the writing of this blog as part of their coursework. The idea was to examine the process of writing a research report by having a real survey and real report to write about. Because students in the class were from many departments of Texas Tech University, we had no common statistical or theoretical base to use, but we didn't worry about that, and just used what we could find. Similarly, we were interested in the water crisis in the City of Lubbock, but we ended up studying people's attitudes about it, since we could gather data about their attitudes, but not about how much water there actually was.
Every paper that was finished ended up in this blog, along with its abstract, which should appear in the first post. Students also wrote teaching philosophies and various other assignments, which also appear here. In short, the blog shows a semester's work. Minimal editing / proofreading was done to their work, with their permission, although it was done poorly or not done at all, in some cases. We tried to study academic language by using it and refining it, though sometimes this as well was done in haste, or not done at all. (-Tom Leverett, instructor)
